WELCOME TO THE CLUBMAN OF THE YEAR COMMUNITY RUGBY AWARDS 2008

2008 awards postponed

Regrettably, the inaugural Clubman of the Year Community Rugby Awards Dinner has been postponed.

Worsening economic conditions have forced key sponsors and a number of local companies to withdraw as the effects of the downturn bite.

To avoid compromising the quality of the event we believe it would, under the circumstances, be appropriate to reschedule for 2009, and we hope to be able to announce a new date shortly.

If you have submitted a nomination it will automatically be carried forward and you will be contacted next year concerning any updates that you might wish to make.

We have had an excellent response from the Clubs of the Ospreys Region and great support for the idea amongst the business community, so while we are very disappointed to postpone, we are confident that 2009 will be a great success, and our thanks go to John West for their continuing support.

Details of the 2009 event will be posted on this website as soon as they are confirmed.

Every club depends on them...

...the volunteers who run the line, drive the bus, or give up their evenings to coach the next Shane Williams or Ryan Jones.

These are the men and women at the very grassroots of the game, who help the players play, bring communities together to watch and generally nurture the sport we all love. Without them, our national game - much less Grand Slams and international glory - simply wouldn't exist.

The Clubman of the Year Awards recognise and celebrate this amazing contribution and the people behind every team - every player.

As the first awards scheme dedicated solely to community rugby's volunteers, we aim to bring together every community Club in the Ospreys' region for one night to honour and appreciate their contribution.

There are four awards each worth £2,500 for the winners Clubs; there are also up to four complimentary places for each Club, and profits from the event will help to fund much needed Club facilities, equipment and volunteer programmes.

So join us as we salute the heroes behind the heroes on 25 September 2008.
